<!-- Introductory paragraph goes here -->

==Official Spotting Locations==

===Aeropark===

The only official location is the Aeropark. It is located to the north-west of the airport and has a number of preserved aircraft on display. Drive past the airport on the A453 with the entrance on your right. You will come to a roundabout. Continue straight ahead, then turn right at the traffic lights. You will pass Donington Park on your left, then continue through the 09 approach lights. You will then come to another roundabout. Take the second exit, the Aeropark is straight ahead.

There is a mound that lifts you above the fence to view arrivals on 09, however you are south facing so into sun. There is also an admission fee to the Aeropark.

==Other Spotting Locations==

===Runway 09 end===

====Diseworth Lane====

By far the most popular location to view aircraft. This spot offers good views of arrivals on runway 09, as well as an overview of the DHL ramp and main apron. Departures from 27 are normally airborne by the time they reach this spot. Landings on 27 normally turn off just before so you can read them off. You are facing into sun however so photography isn't great.

Drive along the A453 with the entrance to the airport on your right. You will come to a roundabout - continue straight on. At the traffic lights turn right towards Castle Donington. You will follow the road through the approach lights to a roundabout with the Aeropark ahead. Turn left and proceed down the hill. After approx. 500 yards there is a pub on the right. At the side of the pub is Diseworth Lane. Drive along this road and you will come to a crash gate. There are normally cars parked either side at the end so you know you're in the right place.

====End of runway 09====

There are several gateways situated on the road at the end of runway 09, near the approach lights. These are good for photographs of arrivals on runway 09, and a good view straight down the runway for nose on shots of heavy departures. Please do not block the gates as they are access to fields.

====DHL Ramp====

By parking in one of the locations just to the south of the approach path, you can park and cross the road and into some bushes. Behind these is a mound with a great view over the DHL apron, where you can see all DHL activity, plus Antonovs and the like which usually park on this apron.

===Runway 27 end===

From the Moto service station, take the A453 towards Nottingham. You will head down the dual carriageway and through the approach lights of runway 27. Immediately after the approach lights there is a turning on the left. Take this turning and you will come to a crash gate with parking.

From here you can stay here (although you are into sun and quite a distance away), or head to one of two spots at the 27 end.

====The Mound====

Walk back towards the A453, shortly before the hedge there is a stile on your right. Cross this and walk along the footpath, keeping to the airport fence. Leave the footpath and follow the fence alongside the runway. You will come to a mound. This mound offers good views of landings and departures from runway 27. It is a good angle for photography of arrivals, and departures hold short right in front of you. With a set of steps you are above fence height.

Warning - although this is great for photography, security are sometimes a little keen here. If you are asked to move on do so immediately. If you don't move when asked they '''will''' send the police around to move you on forcefully. Please don't jeapordise viewing opportunities even further by ignoring them or getting defensive.

====A453====

Leave your car parked and walk back to the A453. Turn right back towards the approach lights, and climb the bank. Walk through the approach lights onto the old disused road. You can get great landing shots on runway 27 here, but you can't see anything else as there is a huge hedge between you and the airport.

===Generic Viewing===

====North Side Crash Gate====

Great location for action shots of aircraft rotating, or just touching down. You are directly opposite the terminal so can get some great action shots here, however you are into sun for most of the day. In the evenings this spot is ideal as the sun is behind you or to your right. In 10 years I have never once been moved on from this location, a lot more than can be said for most of the other locations on the airport.

Drive into Castle Donington, then take the hairpin right turn onto The Hollow. Drive along here and out into the countryside until you come to a left hand bend, and a sign welcoming you to Hemington. Turn right here and follow it down. Eventually it turns into a single track road, pull up in the entrances to one of the fields (being careful not to block the entrances or the road). Then walk the last few hundred yards up the hill, you will see the Radar at the top of the hill. Go through the gate and there is a crash gate. With steps you can shoot over the fence or even through the fence/gate. You can also walk along the fence to get a good angle.

Please note you must not block this road as it leads to the crash gate and needs to be kept clear. I have heard stories of the Fire Brigade physically moving cars that are in their way here so park at your own risk. You cannot park right at the top without blocking the road, so find somewhere further down the hill where you do not block the road, then walk the rest.

====Maintenance Area====

From the terminal, take the road towards the maintenance area. At the mini roundabout turn left, there are a couple of places along here for quick snaps of anything on maintenance.

The first is just before you get to the fuel tanks, pull into this car park for a great close up of an AN-22/24, or sometimes other aircraft that park there. Be very quick however, this is a private car park.

Carry on until the T junction and turn right. As the road bends to the right, there is a car park on the left. Park here and walk to the right of the portakabins, excellent views of BMI's hangars, where you can see inside when the doors are open. Often good bizjet activity parked here. Carry on again, you will pass the air ambulance on the left which you can shoot through the gates, and also see across the the washpans where the Antonov turboprops usually park.

All of the maintenance locations are best for just taking a quick shot and leaving immediately, security regularly patrol this area and will move you on. In any case, once you have your shot of the aircraft around here there is nothing more to see anyway really.

==Locations to Avoid==

===Terminal===

There are no longer any viewing facilities landside in the terminal. There is a gallery after security, although no use for non-passengers.

==Regular Traffic==
===Passenger===

Lots of easyJet A319s, Ryanair B737-800s and bmibaby 737s. After that, there are the usual UK charters, for example Thomson 757s, First Choice A321s etc.

===Freight===

East Midlands is the UK's largest freight operation. DHL have a base here on the western apron, containing DHL (European Air Transport/DHL Air) 757s and DHL (European Air Transport) A300s. There is a nightly Lufthansa Cargo MD11, and a weekly Kalitta Air 747 on a Saturday.

There are daily UPS 767s and Maersk Air 767s that utilise the eastern apron.

There are two Antonov AN-12s based at the airport, operating ad-hoc charters.

The airport sees regular heavy cargo flights for local company Rolls Royce. AN-124s are a common sight (several times a week) transporting engines to Toulouse.
Located 2 miles from Belfast city centre providing essential business links to Northern Ireland's capital, Belfast City Airport offers a wide range of regional airliners. The peak times of operation are between 0700 and 0830, and between 1600 and 1800.

==Official Spotting Locations==

===Terminal Cafe===

The cafe on the first floor of the terminal building overlooks the main apron, and photography is possible from here. The cafe is officially designated a Viewing Area on signage in the terminal, however it is always best to purchase something from the cafe if you are using the tables. Beware of sometimes over-enthuastic security personnel who panic when they see cameras/binoculars. Use of airband radios is not recommended.

==Other Spotting Locations==

===B&Q Car Park===

Walk or drive away from the terminal, North East towards Holywood along the A2. Follow the signs to Holywood Exchange, and you will pass a Sainsbury's before coming to a B&Q store. There are grass areas in front of the B&Q and alongside the road where viewing and photography is possible of aircraft approaching runway 22. Alternatively go past the main B&Q entrance about 200 yards and take the signs to the "Warehouse entrance" of B&Q where this end of the store car-park is often empty. Clear views can be had from here of aircraft on approach and short finals, all from the comfort of your car!

===Old Terminal Car Park and Sydenham Railway Bridge===

The old Terminal car park is no longer used, however still has a manned security hut overlooking the area. It is possible to photograph aircraft using the old Terminal for General Aviation purposes, however an extended stay to photograph the movements will result in you being moved to the footbridge linking the airport with the nearby Sydenham Railway Station. The footbridge enables good views and photography of aircraft departing runway 22, and arriving and departing runway 04. Parking in the old Terminal car park is not permitted for any length of time, however parking is available off the main dual carriageway under the footbridge.

===Ikea Car Park===

Close to B&Q (see above) but turn left upon entering Holywood Exchange (rather than right). The newly opened (December '07) Ikea has a multi-story open-roof car park that offers great views of runways 4 and 22. On a weekday you should be able to park your car right beside the fence on level 3. But on a Saturday or Sunday, if it is busy, you might not be able to drive into the multi-storey, but you can still walk up to it. Expect a few weird looks from the public if photographing, but you shouldn't get bothered by any staff. The multi-story is only open during store opening hours - on a Sunday this means you won't get onto the carpark top level until 1300hrs. See http://www.airliners.net/photo/EuroManx/EuroManx/1330520 for example photo.

==Regular Traffic==

FlyBe is by far the main airline at Belfast City, with a large number of Dash 8 Q400s, and BAe 146s based at the airport. BMi fly the flagship route to London Heathrow with Airbus A321/320/319. Aer Arann operates an ATR42/72 service to Cork, Euromanx a Dash 8 Q200/300 service to the Isle of Man, and Manx2 also serves IOM with a variety of equipment, usually a Let410 or Metro. There is also a twice daily air mail operation to Prestwick with an Air Charter Scotland Cessna 310 or similar. General Aviation movements usually total 1 or 2 a day, generally biz jets, however there is a based Pilatus PC12 and G-MGYB Legacy of Haughey Air can usually be found on the ramp outside the old terminal.

==Facilities and Transportation==

The cafe mentioned above has airport priced food and drink, and there is a newsagents on the ground floor of the terminal building. There is a regular bus service from outside the terminal to the Europa Bus Station in the centre of the city which costs just a few pounds.

==Amendment to the Tower Frequency==

This has changed recently from 130.75 to 122.825

Donegal Airport is located at Carrickfinn, on the top North-Western corner of Ireland. It is located around 15 minutes from Dungloe and Gweedore, and about 45 minutes from Letterkenny. The airport was first opened to the public in 1986, at a time when the runway was just a grass strip. As passenger numbers grew, during the 1990's the runway was replaced with a new hard surface and it was also extended. A new and modern terminal building was also constructed around the same time.

Aer Arann is the main airline at the airport. It currently operates flights to Dublin and Glasgow-Prestwick.
Donegal Airport is located 2 miles southwest of An Bun Beag, near Carrickfinn on the west coast of County Donegal. It is about a 15 minute drive from Dungloe and Gweedore and 45 minutes from Letterkenny. Until the mid 1980s the runway was a grass strip. This was replaced by a hard surface runway with temporary buildings. The airport started operations in 1986 and was developed with funds and assistance from the Irish Government, private investors, Donegal County Council, the International Fund for Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund. In the 1990's the runway was extended to 1,500 metres and a new terminal building with modern navigational aids and equipment was added.

Aer Arann remains the only scheduled airline currently using the airport. They receive Public Service Obligation funding from the Irish Government to subsidise the route to Dublin, a contract that was renewed in 2005. On 21 February 2007, the Irish Government announced that it would be giving €3.8 million to the airport in capital grant money.
===Terminal Viewing Facility===

Belfast International Airport has a dedicated viewing facility within the terminal. Entrance is free. Views are relatively good across the active passenger apron and onto runway 25/07. However, the freight ramp is hidden behind the international arrivals pier. Photographs from the viewing lounge can be reasonable but you will have to avoid the grubby windows as the gallery is completely enclosed!

Also landside, there are limited views from the bar area in the terminal towards the GA ramp parking. You also get a view of one or two of the Easyjet stands that are out of sight of the viewing gallery. There is currently (March 08) some work in this area to drain the ramp and relocate parking stands, however views are still available. Biz-jet parking has moved to "Delta" ramp as a result.

Airside - there are limited views from the windows beside the "Rankin" cafe. You can see the international pier and a section of the main runway 25. Most lounges have views of some sort with the best being from the international departure gates. The Easyjet lounge (the old BA lounge) also has reasonable views although it can be very busy.
===Runway 25 Approach===

On approach to runway 25 there are a few places where photos are possible. 25 is the most commonly used runway. Try this link for a photo of 25 finals:

Upon exiting the airport, follow the main road towards Belfast which runs parallel to runway 25. After 3/4 of a mile you will come to a lay-by on the left-hand side. This is level with the end of runway 25 and you can see the threshold, albeit from slightly below. You can stop here for a few minutes although there are double yellows along the edge of the lay-by. Unfortunately you are also looking south so the sun can be a problem. There is a disused road here which used to be the main road to the airport from the south of the province, but during Northern Ireland's "darker" times it was closed for security reasons. People can be seen walking here so there is no real problem going through the barrier (However it is not recommended you leave your car unattended). NB A new low-level security fence has been erected here (as of April 2007) to limit car parking by taxis and private cars. New "yellow-box" road markings have also been painted which appears to suggest parking will be less tolerated.

If you continue a short distance along the road towards Belfast you will pass Ballyrobin Country House on the right hand side. 100 yards after this there is a road to the right called Drennan's Road that runs between the landing lights. There is a no-stopping zone directly under the approach but if you drive towards the church at the far end (Killead Church), you can pull in and take reasonably good air-shots on finals at the gate opposite the church hall. If the sun is out, especially in winter, this can produce some nice shots with a 300mm lens.

If you turn left at the church (away from the airport)onto Killead Road, after another 300yards you will see the main road (A26) from Nutts Corner to Antrim. Just before this there is a road on the left leading up to some houses and a furniture business ("Creative Furnishings"). It's a public road and you may pull in here. The council have even provided litter bins! You get decent views of aircraft on short finals although photos aren't great as you are a bit "underneath". It was once possible for you to be able to see the threshold of 25 about 1/2 mile away but the hedge has grown up too high now.

There are other spots along the main road to Templepatrick/Belfast, but obviously the further away you go from the airport, the higher the aircraft are.

===Freight Ramp===

If you want to see the freight apron, turn left out of the front door of the airport and walk past the Park Plaza Hotel towards the long-stay car park. Once at the car-park entrance turn left and walk down towards the airfield past the car hire outlets. One of the car hire businesses has expanded onto the road here (during 2007) limiting the proximity to the airfield, but you can still stop for a few seconds and identify anything on the freight ramp, albeit through various fences and other bits and pieces of airfield equipment. There are no chance of photos as a result. You may also want to walk into the long-stay car park to get a different view onto the freight ramp.

===Seacash Road===

Turn right at the long-stay car park entrance. After 50 yards you come to a cross-roads at a mini-roundabout - turn left into British Road. You will pass the entrance of the Cargo Centre and after another 300m you will see the landing lights of runway 17 to your left. Turn left immediately into Seacash Road. This is a dead-end road but there are a couple of spots where you can pull in and look across the airfield towards the runway intersection, the Woodgate Hangar area and the RAF site. If you carry on along this road to the end you will find yourself at the back of the Woodgate hangar. You can normally see one or two of their light aircraft parked up outside as well as a withdrawn RAF Wessex hulk and Aldergrove's Rescue Training ex-BA Trident G-AVFE.
{{myavlink|00363215}}
The airport Police patrol here regularly, but even though it is a control zone, they will sometimes let you stay for a while if you talk nicely to them :).
During 2007 it appeared that work was going to commence along Seacash Road to develop airport hanger and industrial facilities. However this work has failed to materialise (as of March 08) with only a builders storage area left to "threaten" any existing views.

===Runway 07 Approach===

Follow British Road from the airport until the end, when you come to a T-Junction, and turn left. Follow this road a few km, until you come to a staggered junction just before a railway bridge, with some buildings to your left hand side. This is Aldergrove village, you can see it on the map accessible from the top right of this page. The road to your left is a control zone, so you cannot take the car up it ( it leads to the army base ), but you can leave your car at the buildings on the main road without a problem, and walk up. Views of aircraft approaching 07 can be got here whenever it is in use. There are a lot of trees in the way etc,,, but its OK for air shots, and the sun is on your side.
-=UPDATE=- 27/05/2007 , there are road closed signs on this road now with some work going on preventing you from walking up here.

===Runway 35 Approach===

If you go to the nearest 35 approach road, this has 'Control Zone' signs on it from a fair distance back.
However, there is a road called the Crosshill Road which gives splendid views overlooking the 35 threshold.
This can be found just off the Manse Road on the South side of the airport. Coming from Nutts Corner, take the Nutts Corner Road, signposted to Crumlin, the one before the road to the airport, and turn off at the Manse Road junction on the bend. Crosshill Road is the first on your right after that. There is a signpost to Crosshill B & B at the corner.
You can drive right up near the end of it, and still be in a no restriction area, and have great views over the 35 T/H beside a farmers field with a large grass verge.(you are on a hill, so look down upon the airport)

===Runway 17 Approach===

This is within a 'Control Zone' so is generally a no go here. It is however possible to park just outside the 'Zone' beside a gate (before the railway bridge) and see the approaching a/c from there. However, you are not that close and the pictures won't be that good. It's not used often for Jet Traffic either. Mostly Helicopter traffic.

==Locations to Avoid==

===Southern Perimeter/RAF Camp===

Avoid the road on the south side of the airport leading to the RAF camp. There are security cameras mounted along here and anything more than a 10 second stop is likely to result in you being stopped by the military. The "south side" of the airport in general is out of bounds unless you have permission from someone within the RAF camp. If runway 35 is in use (not often) do not be tempted to locate a spot near the threshold as this is well within the unofficial security zone for the RAF site.

Security is reasonably tight around the perimeter in general and you might be stopped by either airport police (most common), PSNI (Northern Ireland police force) or British Army. The airport police are fine if you explain what you are doing. They might even offer some advice! The PSNI and army are less regular visitors but you would undoubtedly run into them if you stopped anywhere around the south side of the airport. The locations on approach to 25 are fine as long as you adhere to the signage, you shouldn't have any bother.

==Regular Traffic==

Movements are dominated by Easyjet, BMi Baby and Jet2 although Thomas Cook and First Choice usually have a based A320 or A321. Continental Airlines has a daily flight to Newark throughout the summer which reduces to 6 days per week in the winter schedule. Manx2 operations to the Isle Of Man usually see a Let 410 or Metro at least twice daily.

Summer charters operators include Futura, Air Europa, LTE, Air Transat and Monarch. Winter ski charters are usually operated on Saturdays by Austrian and Bulgarian airlines.

Military movements are dominated by based helicopters (gazelles, pumas & Lynx's) with occasional influxes of RAF Hercules/VC10/Tristar troop carriers.

Also a regular is the PSNI EC135 Helicopter, Callsign Police 44 Zulu, which is based at Aldergrove, along with a fixed wing Islander (Scout 1). They have a hangar on the AAC side of the military apron.

==Facilities and Transportation==
Ulsterbus run a bus service to Belfast City Centre (Europa Bus Centre) every ten minutes from the front of the terminal. The service number is 300 and the journey takes about 30 minutes. You can get a connecting minibus from Europa Bus Centre to Belfast City Airport, departures every thirty minutes (if not more frequent), journey time is about 10 minutes.

Cork Airport is one of the three main international airports in the Republic of Ireland (Dublin and Shannon are the other two). Situated 5 miles(8km) to the south of Cork City Centre, the airport is the ideal gateway to the South West of Ireland. A number of regional and international destinations are served from Cork Airport. Aer Arann and Ryanair have a large presence at the airport along with Aer Lingus, who have got four aircraft at based the airport making it an important European hub.
==Official Spotting Locations==

There are no official spotting locations provided at Dublin Airport.
The balconies on the original terminal building were closed to the Public in the early 1970s due to the security situation that persisted in Ireland at that time.

==Other Spotting Locations==
===Old Airport Road===
There is a layby on the Old Airport Road. It is parallel to the main runway. From here you have an unobstructed view of arriving and departing aircraft and the runway. It can be seen in the bottom left hand corner of this map: [http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&om=1&z=17&ll=53.419341,-6.251253&spn=0.00273,0.007317&t=h Old Airport Rd. viewing point]

Also you can spot aircraft from The Skyview Bar, they don't normally bother you if you purchase a drink or sandwich now and then.

The airport is located in Shannon, County Clare, around 24 km (15 mi) from Ennis and 25 km (16 mi) from Limerick City. It is one of Ireland's three main airports (along with Dublin Airport and Cork Airport) and it offers flights to many destinations throughout Europe and the United States. The airport is also famous for having the longest runway in Ireland.

==Official Spotting Locations==

===Terminal Viewing Facility===

==Other Spotting Locations==

===Runway 25 Approach===

On approach to runway 25 there are a few places where photos are possible. 25 is the most commonly used runway. Try this link for a photo of 25 finals:
{{anetlink|209794}}

===Freight Ramp===

===Seacash Road===

{{myavlink|00363215}}

===Runway 07 Approach===

===Runway 35 Approach===

===Runway 17 Approach===

==Locations to Avoid==

===Southern Perimeter/RAF Camp===

==Regular Traffic==

Summer charters operators include Futura, Air Europa, LTE, Air Transat, Zoom, and Monarch.

==Facilities and Transportation==

==Official Spotting Locations==

There are no official spotting locations provided at Dublin Airport.
The balconies on the original terminal building were closed to the Public in the early 1970s due to the security situation that persisted in Ireland at that time.

==Other Spotting Locations==
===Old Airport Road===

Located 2 miles from Belfast city centre providing essential business links to Northern Ireland's capital, Belfast City Airport offers a wide range of regional airliners. The peak times of operation are between 0700 and 0830, and between 1600 and 1800.

==Official Spotting Locations==

===Terminal Cafe===

==Other Spotting Locations==

===B&Q Car Park===

===Old Terminal Car Park and Railway Bridge===

The old Terminal car park is no longer used, however still has a manned security hut overlooking the area. It is possible to photograph aircraft using the old Terminal for General Aviation purposes, however an extended stay to photograph the movements will result in you being moved to the footbridge linking the airport with the nearby Sydenham Railway Station. The footbridge enables good views and photography of aircraft departing runway 22, and arriving and departing runway 04. Parking in the old Terminal car park is not permitted for any length of time, however parking is available off the main dual carriageway under the footbridge.

===Ikea Car Park===

==Regular Traffic==

==Facilities and Transportation==

The cafe mentioned above has airport priced food and drink, and there is a newsagents on the ground floor of the terminal building. There is a regular bus service from outside the terminal to the Europa Bus Station in the centre of the city which costs just a few pounds.

==Amendment to the Tower Frequency==

This has changed recently from 130.75 to 122.825
