The Bangor International Airport is a regional airport located in Bangor, Maine. The Bangor airport sees light service from several US Legacy airlines, made up of primarily light Regional Jet traffic. The airport is also an active Maine Air National Guard Base and a popular diversion destination for transatlantic flights and troop charters. Bangor often acts as a port of entry for US soldiers returning to the states, seeing 2-3 widebody charter aircraft or diversions on an average day.

Official Spotting Locations

Maine Air Museum

The only semi-official spotting location at the Bangor Airport is the parking lot for the Maine Aviation Historical Society (Maine Air Museum) on Maine Ave, just East of the main terminal building. The museum itself is home to a small collection of aircraft and memorabilia, but the museum's location on the airport grounds provides good views of the overall airport environment and runway. Since the museum is separated by a fence from the airport and is located on the North of the airport, photography is not ideal.

Other Spotting Locations

Odin Road

Odin Road runs under the approach end for Bangor's Runway 33. Pulling off to the side of the road just south of the runway, at the driveway for the Telford Aviation hangar provides great views of aircraft landing on 33. Sunlight on landing aircraft is perfect in the afternoon, becoming ideal in the late afternoon after 3:00pm (depending on season.) Telford Aviation is also often home to dozens of turboprop aircraft in various states is disrepair. While all aircraft are located on airport grounds, many can be viewed from public property.

Runway Road

(UNVERIFIED) Runway Road on the West side of the airport appears to be the reciprocal of the Odin Road location, ideal during morning sunlight. I have not personally visited this location, but posts on Jetphotos and other sites seem to suggest that it is acceptable for spotting. Runway Road is visible on sattelite maps of the area, explore at your own risk.

Places to Avoid

Maine Air National Guard Base

The far West side of the terminal/hangar complex is gated and is part of the Maine Air Reserve Base. This area will be patrolled by Military Personell and access is not permitted.
