'''Time of day:''' The runway 13 approach is viable for morning photography if you are prepared to take head-on shots from directly beneath the flight path, but this location really comes into its own in the afternoon. For aircraft in park 3 you need to wait for the late afternoon and evening. | '''Time of day:''' The runway 13 approach is viable for morning photography if you are prepared to take head-on shots from directly beneath the flight path, but this location really comes into its own in the afternoon. '''Directions:''' | '''Directions:''' If you do not have your own transport, your best bet is bus no. 35. Ask the driver to stop you by the Express Trailers building (a large garage for commercial vehicles) on the outskirts of Luqa, at the foot of Triq Hal Qormi which runs uphill to the previously mentioned Lidl supermarket and the airport cargo centre. The Express Trailers building is at the corner of this road and Triq Hal Farrug. The runway 13 threshold is about 20 minutes walk up Triq Hal Farrug.
By car, follow the directions to the previous spot but go past the phallic sculpture. You will then descend Triq Hal Qormi, at the bottom of which you will find another roundabout this time sporting a metal rocket-like construction. Turn left here (by the Express Trailers building) and take Triq Hal Farrug uphill. There's no mistaking it - it's a very bumpy road, though it is often used by heavy vehicles on weekdays. At the crest of the hill you will come to a clearing on your left next to the airport perimeter fence, where you can park. You will be practically under the flight path at this point but you can walk further up the road, angle of the sun permitting, to shoot side-ons.
